Hello Hello! Kelly and I are currently sitting in the mid lodge at Stratton Mountain waiting for our race to begin. It is 11 o’ clock and the first forerunner just left the gate. It has been quite a week so far. Beginning with witnessing a car crash right outside the grocery store we stopped at in Springfield. We proceeded to our motel, and moved in. We’re staying in the annex, complete with “the Electric Lounge,” an arcade/lounge with fogged up windows; and a game room down some wooden steps in an unfinished basement. Tuesday and Wednesday we had GS races, which were beyond fabulous for both of us. We also managed to finally get our phones buzzing, which is something that doesn’t happen often. While staying in Manchester we got to see the cool cat himself Henry Miles (A Holderness graduate) and dine with him twice. It was lovely to see him. Now we are here still at the Stratton ECUPS waiting to take our runs down the slalom course. A typical day at a ski race: 6:30 Roll out of bed and head out the door for our morning run through the snow in the cold 6:45 Get dressed, pack our bags 7:00 Hit the snowy road, stop for breakfast along the way 8:00 arrive at the mountain and register 8:30 inspect the course (or on very snowy days, slip it out 4 times, then inspect) 8:45-11:00 take a free run, sit in the lodge, take your race run, sit in the lodge, play cards, eat, do homework?, read a novel, work on blogs 12:30 Inspect for second run 12:45-2:30 take a free run, sit in the lodge, take your race run, get your ass kicked by college girls, sit in the lodge, call your parents and cry, eat more, wait for your team to finish 3:00 leave the mountain 3:30- 5:15 sit on your bed, do homework, tune your skis, go for a run, shower…? 5:30 DINNA 7:00 scrape the wax off your skis 8:30 have an interpretive dance party 9:00 go to bed Do It all again!!!

Back in da hoooood of Holderness, Kelly and I are getting our brains back on track. We moved back in last night and spent some time with the bucket...except for celinch the grinch. The story swapping was wonderful. There was fun with balconies, tearing up dance floors, back massages, runs through the woods, and a plethora of other fun adventures we talked about. We woke up this morning and headed out to class in the bitter cold. Getting back in the school mindset proved to be a challenging task, but by the dark block we seemed to be doing alright. The skiing at Cannon was terribly chilly, and required a few stops in the lodge to thaw out between a mix of hop turns, gates, and javelin turns. I discovered the warming effects of dancing on the chairlift when I was showing off the new moves I learned from the 50 year olds at the New Years Eve dance party I attended. Needless to say, my fellow chairmates were thoroughly impressed, and my phalanges warmed right up. Tonight the greatest studying playlist on Pandora was discovered: http://www.pandora.com/#!/stations/play/616341821724716101 check it out for some homework inspiration!! WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL EVERYONE xoxo also, SHOUT OUT TO KAILEIGH LAZZARO who today successfully finished her 17th rotation around the sun!! you go girl, keep it up! HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! 2011 is out the door. Say hello to the new year of 2012! You better make it count because this could be our last year to live! Thanks for the heads up Mayans!

Make this year the best year of your life! Cheers! It has been a lovely vacation thus far! I came home from Sunday River and went to my pal Sam Devine's house for some competitive ping pong, snow person making, tree decorating, doctors visits, and food. Then I headed home and lounged around with the fam. The cousins came over for the annual lobsta dinna on christmas eve for my papa's birthday, and the stockings were hung by the chimney with care. I saw my mother kissing santa clause underneath the mistletoe...that was weird. But christmas was delightful. After opening presents we trekked through the woods to our cousins' condo and opened presents with them. After a short hike, we went over to the mac shack on Squam for a family gathering. The next couple days I have been skiing all around, even doing some night training. Last night I was introduced to the pleasures of Super Smash Bros...life changing. Nicki DiNapoli Enjoying her Christmas Breakfast The Holidays are big in the DiNapoli family! They are filled with activity after activity. Christmas went by in the blink of an eye. It all started Christmas eve with a late afternoon church service. We DiNapoli's got in our best dress and went and watched as the kids performed the service as they do every year. After that we came back and feasted on a great meal. After dinner we continued our Christmas eve rituals by opening one gift picked from under the tree! I got a sweet flannel Carhart shirt, Thanks mom! Once everyone got settled down it was time for bed. As expected we woke up really early to open our presents! Thank you santa for all the gifts! Another annual event is to go skiing after opening presents in the morning. The whole fam geared up and we set out for the slopes! Christmas was awesome and full of fun spirts and laughter! Although I am still looking for this remote controlled helicopter that Santa didn't bring me... xoxo tata for now Salutations.
Who is this Meredith Bird character you may ask? It is I. Meredith Bird. Famous for my skills in cartography, squirrel mating calls, and flagpole sitting, I have been asked to make a guest appearance on the Kelly and Elena blog. I have decided that the best way to do this is in the form of an interview. So here it goes: Meredith Bird: So I feel like I've been hearing your name everywhere recently due to your rising fame in the national wicker basket making association. Did this sudden success and world recognition come as a surprise to you? Meredith Bird: Not really, I always knew that I would be famous. MB: Cool MB: yeah MB: well folks that about wraps up today's program If you guys want more please visit my website- http://greenberryhouse.com/images/blog%20071.jpg These past weeks have marked an awesome exhilarating time for Elena and me. After three days of battling our exams the kitchen staff at Holderness treated us to a wonderful Holiday Dinner (see photos below). At the dinner, Elena casually sported footie pajamas, while I wore a simple dress and a halo to symbolize the angel in me. As the dinner came to an end it was time to say goodbye and happy holidays to all our fellow classmates and depart for break! This is when the real fun kicked in.... we made a journey back to Vermont for some fun days of skiing and important Christmas activities that needed attention. This was the perfect thing to do to get some holiday cheer inside of us! As said flawlessly in the movie Elf "the best way to spread holiday cheer is singing loud for all to hear!" Without a doubt we channeled our inner elf. We made paper snowflakes to hang around the house, sang Christmas song after Christmas song, went christmas shopping, watched Christmas movies, and even made Christmas cookies! Needless to say we are so ready for December 25th!!!! Although for the four days we were busy skiing and getting ready for the holiday, we took some time to visit the one and only Jordan Camp. We spent a relaxing afternoon catching up on our lives. It was heartbreaking to leave him again but we will all be reunited hopefully soon. This all abrubtly came to an end because it was time for us to re-enter the ski racing world, with an Eastern Cup series at Sunday River, Maine. Although the skiing part was okay, but the real fun was after. We went out for dinners, watched Glee and learned to interpretive dance to dub-step. After four long days of racing, we went our separate ways to spend the holidays with our family. We'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Chanukah and Happy New Year! Catch you later in 2012!!! For the past week skiing's been rough due to the lack of snow, but we made due with some stellar workouts. On wednesday we went skating, which was a BLAST! Then followed it up with yoga. We finally got out on the slopes today. Cannon's trails were a bit rough but we had a lovely time being out there. Out on the slopes we discovered that our ski coach knows our type in men very well. So boys if you wanna know if your our type please ask Jake Manseau! From Dodgeball, to Powderpuff, to Grinch suits, we had an eventful weekend! It started off saturday afternoon with a stellar game of speedball with the Holderness Eastern Ski team. We then all filed into the basketball courts to watch our boy Sully in his first Holderness basketball game. Needless to say, he was a star on the court and got a rousing applause and cheering when he stepped into play. Elena got to go out with Jory and Clark for dinner and catch up with the world traveler himself. In the evening, Elena participated in open mic night where she sang and original piece by her and Charlie Williams. The one and only Emily Soderberg sang harmony. We then went up to dodgeball. Despite the rice and music provided by the Green Ginger Garden team, victory was not in our grasp. Will Marvin's team took the win. Have fun in the limo...any of you looking for a prom date? Today we participated in Powderpuff football. We were a tough match for the senior girls who were certain they were going to demolish us. But we scored the first TWO touchdowns. The score was back and forth the whole game but due to a series of unfortunate mistakes we lost by one touchdown. Well played seniors. Later, we took a trip to Walmart where Elena pushed me around in a cart as we both sported Grinch onesies. Quality sunday at Holderness. Keep it real everybody! Last week during Thanksgiving break Kelly and I headed out to Colorado with the Holderness Ski Team to hit the trails. We arrived in Denver on sunday and hung around the Denver International Airport (which we will probably never do again #DIAconspiracy), then after some skillful and strategic planning we fit all 48 bags into two vans! It was quite a feat. The drive from Denver to Keystone was beautiful and fun, but we ran into some more challenges when we couldn't find our condos. After some exploration, the girls found ourselves in our luxurious new home for the week. Our condo had 3 floors, a HUGE tv, and a hot tub. The boys on the other hand weren't so lucky in their one floor, two bedroom, one bathroom condo...with raccoons lingering outside. After about an hour of chaos and unnecessary confusion, we all found beds for ourselves. The next morning we headed out to Loveland for our first day of skiing. We had a blast being back on snow, despite the overwhelming amount of people we had to avoid. On the ride home we all hopped out of the van when we reached the continental divide, but when we returned to the van we saw that we were locked out! Luckily we were with two mastermind coaches (shout out to Jeff and Moody) who had us back inside it in no time. The skiing was a blast. We started off at Loveland the first two days, then headed on over to A Basin. It was BEAUTIFUL there, and the snow was great. For thanksgiving we booted up in the living room and walked across the street to ski at Keystone. We bombarded down the mountain all day and had a wonderful time. It was extremely crowded though! Friday we went to Copper for some gate training. The new $4 million trail was superb. The snow was excellent, and it was fun to be back in gates, no matter how short the course was. We enjoyed nice Apres ski everyday. You would often find us in the hot tub after dinner creating new bonds with eachother, and blossoming friendships. We also enjoyed galavanting around the Keystone Village, riding bulls, eating beaver tails, and finding $300 neckies. For thanksgiving dinner we headed to the Red MountainGrill for the Turkey Special...I had pizza. We all got twitters over the trip so follow our tweets! Saturday, as we set off for our thanksgiving break, Kelly and I stopped by the boys Varsity soccer game at Tilton against Wheeler. Their victory brought them to finals. The game was very exciting, Will Marvin with his never failing stellar saves was on a role. Although, the boys lost in there Championship game, Matthew Gudas scored a fabulous left footed volley. BUT ALSO the most exciting thing about going to the soccer game was that our trio was reunited when Jordan Camp showed up! We had some quality Pop Sci reviewing, and lots of catching up. Camper we're your biggest fans. |
